In the heart of Lisbon, lies an architectural gem: the São Carlos residential project is a celebration of historical architecture while also embracing modernity and comfort.
Rodrigo Sampayo, from Openbook Studio, led the transformation of this ruined building into a residential masterpiece and shares its story. Respecting tradition, the facade kept a characteristic pink hue, while the interior was completely reinvented. Drawing inspiration from the memories of old Lisbon buildings, the project incorporates traditional elements, such as cushioned wooden shutters, high skirting boards, and ornate trimmings, not forgetting the worked ceilings.
The original building, consisting of small compartments, was transformed into spacious and generous spaces. With three apartments of about 250 m² each and a duplex on the upper floors of approximately 500 m², São Carlos offers a unique experience. The glass doors that separate some divisions stand out, providing stunning views of the Largo de São Carlos and the houses of the capital.
This project is a reinterpretation of Lisbon living, combining the charm of the old with the functionality and comfort of today. São Carlos, winner of several awards, is a shining example of our commitment to preserving Lisbon's historical beauty while providing contemporary spaces of excellence.
